Medicine Hat is located in southeastern Alberta, approximately 290 kilometres southeast of Calgary and 146 kilometres north of the USA-Canada border on the Trans-Canada Highway. Known as "The Gas City" and "The Hat", Medicine Hat has a population of over 60,000 people living in over 27,000 homes. As Canada's sunniest city, Medicine Hat enjoys more than 2,500 hours of sunshine a year and has the longest agricultural growing season in Alberta. Summer temperatures average 20°C and winter temperatures are moderated by Chinook winds, with January averages of about −13°C.
